Growing our Garden!
What started out as a simple orchard has transformed into a Children’s Discovery Garden. Our purpose is to instill joy, fun and the appreciation of productive gardens into children of all ages. The design will have integrated pathways that wind in and out of planted areas encouraging exploration of orchard wildflower grasslands, secret reading corners, labeled vegetable gardening and an enigmatic sunflower maze! Excitement to learn about the bounty the Earth can provide captures the intent of our Children’s Discovery Garden.
Design elements in the garden will include:
raised vegetable planters using Hugelkultur
green trellised “tunnel” between planters
central spiral maze exhibiting seasonal vertical plantings
quiet secret reading corner
native plant demonstration pathway
native wildflower grassland
fruit tree orchard
grape and black berry perimeter
seed starting greenhouse
